Just a quick question

Okay, first off, again, I apologize for not being so active on here – busybusybusy with school (if you want to hear me blather on about that, read my college blog). Basically I had zillions of tests, and now they are done, and I don’t have another exams for two weeks (yay!).. So, I am sorry- at this point in time I see I have 29 comments to approve, so I am sorry, I will get around to it hopefully tomorrow.

I just wanted to ask a quick question- I’m posting it here rather than my college blog because I know more people read this one (isn’t that always my excuse lol?) and it’s kind of time pressing issue.

I was just wondering if anyone knows when you get your Voter Registration Card? Because my roommate got hers a few weeks ago- all the freshman registered to vote during orientation- and I still haven’t gotten mine! I just had my 18th Birthday on the 25th (last thursday)- is that why I haven’t gotten it? Because honestly I’m starting to get a little twitchy about it. I don’t want to not be able to vote.

So I’m not sure what to do and was wondering if anyone knew wether when you turn 18 affects when you get your voter registration card. Thanks for any advice, I really don’t know what to do…

  1. I don’t know about where you live, but here you don’t even need to bring your voter ID card to the poll.

  2. I’m pretty sure that’s the earliest you do get it?

  3. As far as I know, you can register online. Just go to http://www.declareyourself.com. Nice blog, btw.

  4. I think about 3 weeks… but it might change depending on where you live and what time you register.

  5. The day your birthday falls only effects if you can vote if it falls so long after election day. they’re probably mailing them out by last name, SSN or some other convoluted system. I’d give it a week or so and then check into it more by going to the registration office.

  6. Use your roomies card to get the number for the voters office, then call and ask if your info has been recieved. I had to do that for my husband. They were super nice and acted like it happened all the time. Good for you for voting. ~j

  7. Striaght up, yes. It will affect when you get your card. I believe It would affect, I know it’d like that in Canada.
Reading something quick about stuff like that in California, as long as you are 18 years of age or older by the next election then you’re good. So, I’m not totally sure about your situation.
Sorry, I could’t be much help.

  8. I know this is over a week late, but yes, your birthday has everything to do with when you get your card – you’re not allowed to vote UNTIL you’re 18, so they’re not going to give it to you till you do.

Since your birthday was on the 25th (Happy Belated, by the way! :) ), I’d say give it till the end of the week and then see if you can find somebody to contact (like whoever organized the registration on campus, maybe?).

    Governments are always slow.
